Why does Shalom Creatives offer Forest Church?
Shalom Creatives offers space for people to rest and discover the unforced rhythms of grace that Jesus Christ invites us to experience. We long to return to the simplicity of community and of gathering like the New Testament church as we seek to restore balance to every heart, soul, mind and body.

"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace." Matthew 11:28-29

Who attends Forest Church?

All ages, individuals and families, attend Forest Church. Forest Church fits people who are deconstructing from church and people who love church. It's for people who are unsure of their faith and for people longing for new ways to build their faith. It's for people who aren't too outdoorsy and for people who love the outdoors. It's for people who find traditional church too stressful because they struggle to sit still and it's for people who prefer sitting quietly away from the crowd. It's for you. (Please note that children under 18 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.)

What can we expect?
A typical summer session includes a picnic brunch, time for quiet reflection and sharing, and a nature art or exploration activity. We keep a loose, informal structure trusting that the Holy Spirit can speak to each individual through conversations with one another and through encounters with Christian scripture and nature rather than through formality and a sermon. We create space for you to come and be as you are—even with your questions, doubts and anxieties—and to learn to sit in the mysteries of faith and find comfort with the Creator.
If art isn't your thing, enjoy a prayerful walk around the park, reflect with a nature journal or go fishing (bring your own fishing gear and license). Shalom Creatives will be there at 10:00 and will wrap up around 11:30-come and go as you are able.

How do we dress?

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Please keep in mind that we may be using acrylic paint and other materials that can stain clothes.

What do we need to bring?
These items are optional, but suggested for a morning at the park:

-
A brunch/food item to share (if possible)
-
Water
-
Insect repellent
-
Sunscreen
-
Lawn chair (picnic tables and benches on-site)
-
Blank journal
-
Camera to capture things you might find in nature
-
Binoculars for bird watching

Shalom Creatives will provide the paper goods and art supplies each week. Donations are welcome, but not necessary to participate.

What happens if it rains?
Rain provides a unique lens in which to view nature. Bring an umbrella and a sense of adventure—we will still meet under the pavilion provided storms are not in the immediate forecast. Check our Facebook page before heading to the park to ensure we are still meeting.
